Lost Enchantress
A fiery young woman comes to me at night, to haunt my dreams.
She is a finely sculpted creature, not unlike the ancient beauties of eras long since gone—proportioned of generously carved marble. Her hips swing in a fashion you might only begin to describe as unbearably sly, and enticing. As she walks into my life again—in the only way she still can—my soul aches with regret.
As she speaks, enchanting echoes form a most divine song, from the lips of a charming young siren. Her voice was as pleasing as all the rest. Oh, and what charm I had missed, from this maiden.
It's almost impossible to believe now, but she used to be mine.

A Darker Shade of Pale
The cube is cold, silver, and small enough to fit into the palm of his hand. Half of one side is divided into a patchwork pattern of dull metallic squares, while six miniscule needles jut from another. Yet another side is entirely covered with text, but the type is too tiny to make out in the half-light. There are other appendages and readouts, but he doesn’t recognise any of them.
Fischer turns the cube over in his gloved hands, carefully avoiding the needles.
“What is it?” he asks.
The answer comes quickly.

She looks into the eyes of the monster, not comprehending its existence. Reaching slowly for the button, she tries to distract it by baring her teeth in a snarl. The monster is not fooled and cuts her hand off with one fell swoop of its bony protrusion extending from its arm-like appendage. Screaming and bleeding, she falls to the ground as the creature circles her, oozing a dark liquid from its wounds. She has to make sure that it won't survive.
An idea strikes her. She rolls over and kicks her bared and bloodied foot into the largest wound of the creature while grabbing the cut-off cable as the sparks hit her with searing heat. Her body tw
